A special court of Delhi declared Sanjay Bhandari, a weapon businessman living in Britain on Saturday (July 05, 2025), on a petition of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court & lsquo; Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018 & rsquo; Under Bhandari declared a fugitive. This order has strengthened the federal investigative agency, because now ED Bhandari’s assets worth crores of rupees will be attached.

London escaped after the raid. The accused

Recently a UK court ruled against Bhandari’s extradition, after which his chances of coming to India are almost over. Bhandari (63) fled to London soon after the Income Tax Department raided Delhi in 2016.

The Income Tax Department had filed a charge sheet against Bhandari under the Anti -Black Money Act, 2015, on which the ED had registered a criminal case of money laundering against Bhandari and others in February 2017.

Relationships with Robert Vadra

The federal agency filed a charge sheet against Bhandari in the year 2020. ED, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi is also investigating Bhandari’s relationship with Vadra’s husband and businessman Robert Vadra.

ED had filed a supplementary charge sheet in the case in 2023, alleging that Bhandari captured 12, Brianston Square House in London in 2009 and & lsquo; Robert Vadra inaugurated it according to the instructions of Robert, for which Robert Vadra gave the money.

Robert Vadra dismisses the allegations

Vadra has denied owning any property in London. He termed these allegations against him as a political conspiracy and said that he is being harassed to fulfill political objectives. With this order, a total of 16 people, including liquor businessman Vijay Mallya and diamond businessman Nirav Modi, have been declared a fugitive economic offender by different courts.

2019 BJP government brought law

Modi government in 2019 & lsquo; Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, 2018 & rsquo; The law came up, under which those people were to be brought to the court of justice, who ran away from India to avoid the grip of the law after cheating at least Rs 100 crore.

Bhandari is also accused of hiding foreign property, using old -date documents, taking advantage of the assets declared to Indian tax authorities and then giving false information to the officials. However, Bhandari has denied these allegations and said that he has no foreign property.

Bhandari’s lawyer said this thing

Bhandari’s lawyer opposed his move to declare his client as a fugitive criminal, claiming, “Bhandari’s living in Britain cannot be declared illegal, as he has a legal right to live in Britain and the Indian government is tied to the British court’s decision.” So Bhandari is legally living there and in such a situation & lsquo; fugitive & rsquo; It is legally wrong to declare. Bhandari’s assets worth about Rs 21 crore have been attached by ED under PMLA.
