Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been ordered to appear in MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand on 6 August. This order has been issued by the court itself on the scheduled date with the consent of his lawyer. The case is related to a defense case filed by BJP leader Pratap Katihar, in which Rahul Gandhi was not appearing in court for the last two years.
The controversy started with a statement by Rahul Gandhi at the Congress session on 28 March 2018. In this, he made controversial remarks about the then BJP national president Amit Shah. On this statement, Pratap Katihar had filed a defamation case in the CJM court on 9 July 2018.

Summons were sent to Rahul Gandhi several times in the case, but he did not attend the court. Finally on 26 June, the Chaibasa court issued a non-bailable warrant to ensure his presence. Rahul Gandhi also filed a petition against it in the High Court.
Case started in Ranchi MP-MLA Special Court
The case was previously transferred from the Chaibasa CJM court to Ranchi MP-MLA Special Court, but later when the MP-MLA special court was established in Chaibasa, the case was shifted again to Chaibasa.
There is also a stir in the Congress party regarding Rahul Gandhi’s possible appearance. State President of Jharkhand Congress Rajesh Thakur himself is camping in Chaibasa and is monitoring the preparations related to the case.

What did Pratap Katihar say on Rahul Gandhi’s appearance?
BJP leader Pratap Katihar reacted to this and said that no public representative should run away from the court summons. He said, “There is a hopes of even more responsibility from a senior leader like Rahul Gandhi. The dignity and decency of the language is very important in politics. Any leader should keep in mind that his words are not derogatory for others.”
Now everyone’s eyes are on the hearing of August 6, when Rahul Gandhi will appear in court to present his case. The next directive of the court will decide the direction of this case.
