Maha Kumbh Sangam Water Purity CPCB Report NGT Angry on UPPCB Asks to Submit Report in One Week Faecal Coliform in Gangan Yamuna Prayagraj

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) got angry at the Uttar Pradesh government’s plea at the time of hearing on Wednesday (February 19, 2025) on the case of polluted water at the confluence of Prayagraj. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) said in the court that the water from where the water was taken in the sample was contaminated. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) presented a report before the NGT, which said that the water of the confluence in Mahakumbh is not bathable. The fecal coliform level of water does not correspond to the primary quality level required for bathing.

The lawyer of the UP government said that the CPCB has not submitted a test report. UPPCB has also filed a report, and has presented its side. NGT asked if the UP government is questioning the CPCB report? The UP government wants the CPCB to submit a test report with its report. The NGT said that it is the responsibility of the UP government to keep the river water clean.

The NGT questioned the UP government and said that you filed a long wide answer but there is no mention of coliform anywhere. The NGT said that the report is detailed, but it does not mention all the parameters related to the cleaning of Ganga Yamuna. UPPCB claimed that the water was polluted from where the CPCB took a sample in Ganga Yamuna, but from where we took the water there was clean. The NGT got angry on this argument of UPPCB.

The NGT ordered that the UP government assured the NGT that it would take action on the CPCB report. UPPCB Ganga will file the latest report in a week about the quality of water in Yamuna. Now the next hearing of the case will be on February 28. Standing Council Advocate Ankit Verma of UP government said that the next hearing in this case will be held in NGT on February 28.
