The Maharashtra government on Sunday canceled its two orders (GR) related to three language policy. The opposition was constantly opposing this order of the government. Under this, the government had issued an order to make Hindi compulsory as the third language from class 1 to 5 in April this year.
CM Devendra Fadnavis and both Deputy CM held a press conference. CM said- A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of educationist Narendra Jadhav regarding three language policy. Only after its report, a final decision will be taken on the role of Hindi.
Fadnavis accused former CM Uddhav Thackeray and said- Uddhav Thackeray had accepted the recommendations of Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar Committee to start three language policy from class 1 to 12. Also, a committee was constituted on implementing the policy.
The monsoon session of the assembly is starting in Maharashtra from 30 June. This announcement has been made a day earlier. Here, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray had also talked about taking out a joint rally in Mumbai on 5 July over the Hindi language dispute.
In fact, the Maharashtra government made Hindi the third compulsory language on 16 April this year. Students studying from class 1 to 5 can choose other Indian languages apart from Hindi as the third language. The revised GR was released on 17 June after the protest, in which Hindi was made optional.
Uddhav said- not against Hindi, it is not right to impose it
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray had said that the decision of the Mahayuti government is like declaring ‘Language Emergency’ in the state. The former Chief Minister said that his party does not oppose Hindi language, but is against imposing it in Maharashtra.
He said that by doing so, Mahayuti wants to ‘poison harmony’ among Marathi and Hindi speaking people for her politics. Uddhav further said that the Shiv Sena (UBT) will continue its opposition against the government’s decision until it is withdrawn.
Raj Thackeray said- Government knows what Maharashtra wants
On the other hand, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said on 26 June that our party will take out a rally. The government should know what Maharashtra wants. Maharashtra should show its full strength. I will also talk to other political parties. This is a conspiracy to reduce the importance of Marathi in Maharashtra.
When asked if he would invite Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders to join the protests, Thackeray said that all political parties would be contacted. Maharashtra is greater than any fight. However, it has been agreed to take out a joint rally in both parties on the next day of Thackeray’s reply i.e. 27 June (Friday).
Pawar said- it is not right to put the burden of additional languages on children
NCP (Sharad faction) chief Sharad Pawar said on 26 June- Hindi should not be compulsory in Maharashtra with class 1. He emphasized that if a new language is to be started, it should be started only after class 5.
Pawar said, there is no objection to starting Hindi after class 5. A large section of the country speaks Hindi and there is no reason to ignore this language completely. “However, Pawar said that it is not appropriate to put the burden of additional languages on young children.
What is language dispute in Maharashtra, 4 points
- In April, Hindi was made compulsory as the third language for students from 1 to 5th in Maharashtra. This decision was applied to all Marathi and English medium schools in the state.

In such a situation, another language teacher will also be appointed in the school. If the number of students choosing second language is less than 20, then that language will be taught through online medium.

Raj Thackeray is active in politics since 1989: In 1989, Raj Thackeray was the President of the Shiv Sena Student Wing, Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at the age of 21. Raj was so active that within 6 years from 1989 to 1995, he made countless tours of every corner of Maharashtra. By 1993, he associated millions of youth with himself and Shiv Sena. As a result, Shiv Sena’s strong ground network stood in the entire state.
Uddhav dominating Shiv Sena in 2005: By 2002, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav were handling the Shiv Sena. The party session was held in Mahabaleshwar in 2003. Balasaheb Thackeray told Raj- ‘Make Uddhav the executive president of the party. Raj asked, ‘What will happen to me and my people.’ By 2005, Uddhav started dominating the party. Their impact was visible in every decision of the party. Raj Thackeray did not like this.
