The Guilan-Baire syndrome (GBS) in Maharashtra’s Pune district led to 7 new cases on Friday. After this, the total cases of GB syndrome have increased to 180. So far 6 people have died.
According to the health department of Maharashtra, 58 patients ICU and 22 patients are on ventilator support, while 79 have been discharged from the hospital. In these 180 cases there are 123 cases from Pune, 25 from Pimpri Chinchwad, 24 from Pune Rural and 8 from other districts.
An official said that the highest number of cases of GB syndrome have come from Housing Society near Nanded village. A sample of water was taken here, which has been found to be a campylobactor Jejuni positive. It is a type of bacteria that occurs in water.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV) has confirmed that GB syndrome is spread due to polluted water in Nanded and its surrounding areas. The Pune Municipal Corporation has sealed 30 plants including 11 private ROs in Nanded and the surrounding areas.
A 63 -year -old man died on 6 February. The health officer had said that the elderly were admitted to the hospital in Singhgarh Road area after complaints of fever and weakness in the feet. Investigation revealed that he had GB syndrome. He died due to ischemic stroke.
GB syndrome cases in other states also
Apart from Maharashtra, GB syndrome patients have appeared in 4 other states of the country. This figure is one in Telangana. A 17 -year -old girl died in Assam, there is no other active case.
At the same time, 3 people have died in West Bengal till 30 January. It consists of two children. Is an adult. The victim families claim that GB syndrome is the cause of these deaths, but the Bengal government has not confirmed this. It is claimed that 4 more children suffer from GB syndrome. A child named Lakshit Singh died on 28 January in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was suffering from GB syndrome for some time. The family had treated him in several hospitals. But he could not be saved.
3 killed in West Bengal
Kolkata and Hooghly District Hospital claims to have 3 deaths from GB syndrome. According to reports, Debkumar Sahu (10), a resident of Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas district, and Aritra Manal (17) from Amdanga have died. The third deceased is a 48 -year -old man from Dhanyakhali village in Hooghly district.
According to Debkumar’s uncle Govinda Sahu, Deb died on 26 January at BC Roy Hospital in Kolkata. The cause of death in his death certificate is G.B. The syndrome is written. Treatment expensive, one injection of 20 thousand
Treatment of GBS is expensive. According to doctors, patients typically have to do immunoglobulin (IVIG) injection course. An injection in a private hospital is priced at 20 thousand rupees.
The relatives of a 68 -year -old patient admitted to the hospital in Pune said that their patient had to put 13 injections during treatment.
According to the doctors, 80% of the patients in the grip of GBS start walking without any support in 6 months after discharge from the hospital. But in many cases the patient takes one year or more time.
