The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) took stock of the airport across the country after the plane accident in Ahmedabad on June 12. During this time, many flaws were seen at many big airports including Mumbai, Delhi.
The marking made to land the plane on the runway at an airport was blurred. So the tires were worn before the takeoff of the plane. In some places, documents were not maintained properly, then there was a flaw in the complaint book.
2 teams investigated 7 standards Under the supervision of DGCA Joint Director General, two teams investigated on 7 standards. The investigation was done after June 19. A team was monitoring in the morning. The other team was investigating the night working. During this time flight operation, flight time, ramp safety, air traffic control (ATC), communication, navigation and surveillance system and medical evaluation before flight were included.
Flaws found during investigation
1. Not updated to obstruction limit data at an airport for the last three years In the vicinity of the airport, the complete details of any height interruption (such as buildings, towers, trees, cranes etc.) are kept and its height data.
Why is it needed: The route of the aircraft should be completely clean while flying and descending. If there is a tall building or other blockage around the runway, the aircraft may be threatened.
Therefore, the Airport Authority periodically surveys that no new obstruction) has come around. The data that is prepared of this survey is called obstruction limit data. This data is very important for pilots, air traffic control and airport safety standards.
If the data is not updated: new construction work, rising height of trees, mobile towers etc. can prove to be dangerous. The audit found that no survey was conducted despite the new construction work.
