Manipur News: A mob attacked the office of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kangpokpi, Manipur on Friday (January 3) evening. After this, security has been tightened in the district. The Superintendent of Police was injured in an attack by a mob over alleged non-removal of central forces from Saibol village. The attackers pelted stones and other objects at the office on Friday to express their anger over the continuous deployment of central forces, especially the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the village.

On the matter, officials said that the vehicles of the district police kept in the premises of the Superintendent of Police office were damaged. He told that Superintendent of Police M Prabhakar was injured by some object on his forehead. A senior officer in Imphal said that a large contingent of security forces has been deployed in the area. He said, “The situation is now under control and it is being closely monitored.” Police said in a statement that apart from pelting stones, the protesters also attacked the SP office with petrol bombs. After this, the security forces retaliated against the crowd and used necessary force to disperse it, after which the situation was brought under control.

It was told that the Superintendent of Police is now fine and is leading the joint security forces in dealing with the situation. Officials said that some protesters injured during the clashes have also been admitted to the hospital. Kuki organizations are protesting against the alleged lathicharge on women by security forces on December 31 in Saibol village.

Security forces found huge quantity of weapons
Security forces on Friday recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Loibol Khunou area of ​​the district. Police said one 7.62 mm sniper rifle, long-range caliber mortar (locally known as Pumpi), three 9 mm pistols with magazines, 12 bore gun, one SBBL gun, 10 rounds of ammunition, three Hand grenades, three picket grenades, two tear gas grenades and a wireless set were destroyed. Since May 2023, more than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in incidents of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
