In five valley districts of Manipur (Manipur), security forces recovered a huge amount of ammunition and 328 firearms with explosive materials. The Director General of Police (DGP) of the state said that the campaign was run on the basis of special intelligence information on the intervening night of 13 and 14 June.
The seized weapons include 151 SLR rifles, 65 INSAS rifles, 73 other rifles, 5 carbine guns, 2 mp5 guns, 12 LMG rifles, 6 AK-series rifles, 2 amogled rifles, 1 AR-15 rifles, 1 mortar, 6 pistols, 2 gun barrels and 2 flare guns.
In addition to the firearms, security forces recovered 591 mixed magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition, including 3,534 SLR rounds, 2,186 INSAS rounds, 2,252 .303 rounds, 234 AK rounds, 407 amogh rounds and 209 mm rounds. The explosive material seized during the operation included 10 grenades, three letters, seven detonators and three para shells.
Police conducted security operation
Joint teams of Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Indian Army and Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in the outskirts of the districts of the valley. Acting on the information about the presence of illegal weapons, the teams conducted a search operation, after which the biggest weapon was recovered in recent times.
Police described this campaign as an important success in efforts to restore stability in Manipur, which has been struggling with ethnic and political unrest since May 2023.

The DGP office said, “This intelligence-based operation is a major achievement in our commitment to maintain public system and protect the lives and assets of citizens.”
Senior police officers are allegedly working closely with all security stakeholders to maintain and expand such operations. The authorities have requested the citizens to be vigilant and any suspicious activity or illegal weapons to give information to the nearest police station or central control room.
