Apart from this, he has also been the chairman of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in 2013 and 2017. In the year 2021, he left the Shiromani Akali Dal and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After this, in August 2023, he was appointed the National Secretary of BJP. In this assembly elections this time, Sirsa defeated the current MLA of Aam Aadmi Party Dhanwati Chandela by 18,190 votes.

Why did BJP make a minister?

The BJP has made a strategy to help the Sikh community by making Sirsa a minister. Sirsa is one of the major Sikh faces of BJP in Delhi. Whenever Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to the gurdwaras, Sirsa is often seen with him. After the peasant movement, BJP’s situation in Punjab was weakened. In such a situation, the party has made Sirsa a minister in the Delhi government keeping in mind the 2027 Punjab election so that its hold in the Sikh community can be strengthened.
