Uddhav Thackeray on Monday claimed that the Maharashtra government withdrew the decision to make Hindi mandatory due to opposition from opposition parties. Talking to reporters at Vidhan Bhavan, the former Chief Minister said that if the government did not withdraw the decision, BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and NCP Marathi supporters would also attend the protest march.
Thackeray said that the unity of Marathi Manush broke the heads of Marathi opponents. We should maintain unity to raise the head again. Now on 5 July, Vijay Utsav will be celebrated in place of the protest front.
The Maharashtra government on Sunday canceled two orders (GRs) issued on 16 and 17 April related to three language policy. The government issued an order on 16 April to make Hindi a third compulsory language from first to fifth class in English and Marathi medium schools.
