Even in politics, Mayawati has played the tradition of Rakshabandhan for a long time, and it has been a strong relationship of coalition politics in UP – BJP leader Lalji Tandon is the most discussed about Mayawati’s tie rakhi.
Umashankar Singh, the only BSP MLA, is going to discuss Mayawati on the last Rakshabandhan. MLA from Rasra assembly constituency of Ballia, Umashankar Singh was recently in discussion about the dispute with UP minister Dayashankar Singh. Umashankar Singh has also shared a post with a picture of Mayawati tied Rakhi on social site X.
Rakshabandhan starts in BSP
In the picture on social media, Umashankar Singh is getting a mask and the leader of his party and former UP Chief Minister Mayawati is getting rakhi tied. Due to lack of health, he had come to get a mask to get a rakhi tied. Mayawati went to her house when Umashankar Singh, who was considered very close to the BSP leadership, went to her house and took care of her.

Mayawati has an old tradition of Rakshabandhan in politics. In UP politics, the relationship between Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has been called aunt-nephew. It is different that Mayawati never tied a rakhi to Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mayawati and Rakshabandhan politics
After being released from jail, Chandrashekhar Azad once addressed the BSP leader as an aunt, then Mayawati came in front of the media and said clearly that he is not anyone’s aunt. Chandrashekhar Azad is currently a Lok Sabha MP from Nagina in UP.
Outside the family, Mayawati has tied the rakhi to the people, three names have been discussed. Mayawati has also tied Rakhi to Kartar Singh Nagar, who was a minister in the BSP government and Haryana’s INLD leader Abhay Chautala – but the most discussed BJP leader Lalji Tandon has been tied to tying rakhi.
It is believed that Lalji Tandon had a big role in saving Mayawati’s life in the 1995 guest house scandal. Since then, Mayawati used to tie rakhi to every Rakshabandhan for many years, considering Lalji Tandon as her brother. But, it is also believed that when the BJP and BSP alliance broke in 2003, Mayawati never tied Rakhi to Lalji Tandon.
On the question of Rakshabandhan in politics in an interview, Mayawati said, I never went to tie a rakhi at anyone’s house. Mayawati told that if a house comes to a rakhi, she cannot drive away, so she ties the rakhi.
Umashankar Singh has started the tradition of getting Rakhi tied in BSP after a long time. It has to be seen whether this tradition continues even further? Not outside, whether this tradition is carried forward in BSP, so that the organization gets strengthened.
