What do the current rules say?
Currently, some beauty products in India are allowed to use some mercury: Eye makeup can cause 70 ppm (million on parts). All other cosmetics are allowed to use mercury up to only 1 ppm. But now the government wants the products that have more than 1 ppm mercury, they should be completely banned. With this, India will be able to follow rules like Minamata Convention, which is running around the world, which is trying to remove toxins like mercury from products.
