Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in Chandigarh, “I first salute the heroes of the Indian Air Force. Since independence, all of you have introduced the valor to ensure the safety of India, it is inspiring for all Indians in itself. This journey of your valor, I understand that I understand that MiG-21 is a great contribution.”
He said, “Today, when we are bid farewell to MiG-21 from its operational journey, I think we are going to send a chapter that will be written not only in the history of the Indian Air Force but also with a golden letter in our entire military aviation journey.”
Defense Minister remembers the 1971 war
Rajnath Singh said, “MiG-21 has been involved in many missions. From 1971 to Operation Sindoor, MiG has strengthened the Indian Army in every mission. In 1971, when MiG attacked the Governor House of Dhaka, the direction of that war had changed.
He said, “This opportunity is also for national pride and collective success. Our ancient culture tells us that even in lifeless things, God resides and this is our view. We also worship stone. We will worship weapons in Dussehra in a few days. This shows gratitude to all our equipment. Those who give protection to us or whose contribution in our life, should be respected. Then MiG-21 has been a symbol of our power. It must get respect.
Let me tell you that MiG-21 played a key role in the Indo-Pak War in 1965, Bangladesh Mukti Sangram of 1971, Kargil War of 1999 and Balakot air strike of 2019 during the 62-year service.
