Mizoram has achieved historical achievement in the field of education in India. Mizoram has become the first state in the country, which has been declared a full literate state. Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced this on Tuesday during a special event held at Mizoram University (MZU). During this, Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary was also present. The Saksara rate of Mizarom has increased from 91.33 percent to 98.2 percent in the last 14 years.
What did Chief Minister Lalduhoma say?
Chief Minister Lalduhoma said that while celebrating this achievement, he also reiterates his commitment to maintain literacy through continuous education, digital access and professional skills training. Now we have to move towards digital literacy, financial literacy and interpreting skills. So that all the people of Mizo society can become capable.
What did Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary say?
Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary congratulated Chief Minister Lalduhoma and the people of the state for this achievement. He said that I am proud to declare Mizoram as the country’s first literate state under the ‘New India Literacy Program’.

How was this success achieved?
In 2011, the literacy rate of Mizoram was 91.33 per cent, which was third in the country. Ullas (understanding of lifetime education for all in society) and the new India literacy program was identified by those who were not litterates. A total of 3,026 illiterates were identified, out of which 1,692 potential learners were found.
292 volunteer teachers, including students, teachers, resource person and cluster coordinator, participated in this mission. Mizarom achieved this feat through community cooperation, dedication of people and strong will power.
What is the plan ahead?
The Mizoram government is now planning to promote digital literacy. To build a sustainable education system.
