Mk Stalin Writes Letter to PM Modi to Think About Muslims on Waqf Amendment Bill 2024

Waqf amendment bill 2024: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the withdrawal of Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. He claimed that this bill would harm the interests of Muslims. He said that the Constitution gives every citizen the right to follow his religion and it is the duty of the elected governments to maintain and protect it (right).

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu said that the proposed amendments in the Waqf Act, 1995 have not taken into account the constitutional security given to the minorities and this will “cause serious damage to the interests of the Muslim community.” They have already opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill. He demanded personal intervention from the Prime Minister on the issue and underlined that a few days ago the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly passed a resolution and urged the Center to withdraw the bill.

Stalin said that the provisions of the current Waqf Act have lived up to the test of time and they provide protection to the assets of Waqf. He claimed that the proposed amendments to the Waqf Act would weaken the powers and responsibilities of the Waqf boards in the management and conservation of Waqf properties. The Chief Minister also claimed that a large -scale proposed amendments in the current Act would weaken its basic spirit.

Waqf Bill passed in Lok Sabha 2024

Explain that the Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2024 at around 2 pm after the strong opposition of members of various opposition parties on Wednesday and for more than 10 and a half hours.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while replying to the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill in the House, dismissed the claims of several opposition members to call this move as anti -Muslim, saying that this bill is being described as dividing Muslims, while the government is bringing all the sections of the community including Shia, Sunni together. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is also trying to save the Parsi, the smallest minority community in the country.
