Modi government will bring bills to remove PM, CM and Minister for arresting in criminal cases, Congress will flare up

The Modi government will introduce a bill in the Lok Sabha to remove the PM, Union Minister, Chief Minister or Minister if he is arrested or taken into custody in serious criminal charges. According to the news agency PTI, the officials have given this information.

Till now only the public representatives who were convicted under the Constitution could have been removed from the post. But the new proposed bill says that if the Prime Minister, a Union Minister, a Chief Minister or a minister of a state or union state is arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days, he will have to resign on the 31st day or will be considered from the post automatically.

The official said that Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce three draft bills in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (August 20). These bills are- Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, Governance (Amendment) Bill of Union Territories and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill. Shah will also propose to send these three Bills to the Joint Committee of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which will have a provision to submit the report on the first day of the last week of the next parliamentary session.

Congress’s sharp reaction

As soon as this news came at midnight, a debate broke out on social media. Senior Congress leader and well-known lawyer of Supreme Court Abhishek Manu Singhvi reacted sharply.

He wrote on X, “What a vicious cycle! No guidelines were followed for arrest! Opposition leaders are being arrested and inconsistent. Under the new proposed law, the current Chief Minister etc. will be removed immediately as soon as they are arrested.

He further said, “The easiest way to destabilize the opposition is to leave the biased central agencies for the arrest of the opposition Chief Ministers and despite failing to defeat in the electoral fray, they should be removed through arbitrary arrests !! And never even touched any current Chief Minister of the ruling party !! ”
