There have been many players in Indian cricket who have been hunting in couples. In the 1960-70s, the trio of spinners was the biggest strength of India, but it happened only once before the Oval Test when two Indian bowlers took 4-4 wickets in both innings of a match. In the first innings of England in the Oval Test, Mohammad Siraj and the famous Krishna took 4-4 wickets. After this, in the second innings, Mohammad Siraj took 5 wickets and the famous Krishna took 4 wickets. In this way, both these bowlers took a total of 17 wickets in the match.
This has happened only once before the Oval Test when two bowlers of India took 4-4 wickets in both innings of a Test match. This was done by Kamal Bishan Singh Bedi and Irapalli Prasanna. Bedi and Prasanna took 4-4 wickets in the first innings of the Delhi Test against Australia in 1969. After this, both of them took 5-5 wickets in the second innings and took Australia’s innings for 107 runs. India won the match by 7 wickets thanks to this performance of Bedi-Prasanna. Ashok Mankad scored 97 runs in the first innings for India. In the second innings, Ajit Wadekar was unbeaten after scoring 91 runs.
In the 1970s, the trio of Bedi-Prasanna-Chandrashekhar was very famous. For the first time in the 1980s, such a pace attack came out which won some matches to India. The pair of Kapil Dev and Manoj Prabhakar bowled with a new ball for India for a long time. In the 1990s, trio of Anil Kumble, Venkatapati Raju and Rajesh Chauhan did wonders. After this, in the 2000s, Anil Kumble-Harbhajan Singh’s pair was India’s biggest match winner. Then in the 2010s, the spin pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scared the opposition. Meanwhile, the pair of Jasprit Bumrah-Mohammed Shami also won a lot of matches, but after 1969 it never happened that two bowlers of India had taken 4-4 wickets in both innings.
