Monson in India: The monsoon season in the year 2025 has been exceptional so far. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has covered the entire country nine days before the normal date, ie on June 29. This is a special record, because it has happened only four times in the last 25 years when the monsoon has covered the remaining parts of North India and NCR in a single day.
In 2021, the incident took place on 13 July and first in 2013 on 16 June. This date which is also known for the disaster of Uttarakhand (Kedarnath flood). In 2025, the monsoon knocked in Kerala on 24 May, till June 29, it has covered the entire country in just 37 days, while it takes about 38 days to happen.
2025 monsoon in India
The 2025 southwest monsoon came to India before normal. Its knock in Kerala was knocked about eight days ago on May 24 and then it reached states like Maharashtra two weeks ago. This fast had raised hopes that rain will start early in other parts of North India including Delhi. However, after some time there was slowness in the monsoon move and it could not reach parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana on time.
Monsoon in most parts of Punjab and Haryana
While the monsoon reached Delhi in most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, it came later in the National Capital Region (NCR). This situation was uncommon, as most parts of North India remain dry before reaching the monsoon to Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), this year some changes in the climate system and low pressure area in the Arabian Sea could not develop, due to which the speed of the monsoon slowed down.
Monsoon’s kindness in Delhi and NCR
On Sunday, the monsoon was also kind to the remaining parts of India including Delhi and NCR region. With this, this year joined in those few years, when the monsoon was completely enthralled throughout India. This incident has been seen for only the fourth time in the last 25 years. Earlier this happened in 2021, 2013 and 2008.
imd warns of heavy rain
IMD has warned of heavy to heavy rainfall in different parts of northwest, central, eastern and northeast India within the next seven days. This is not only likely to increase the water level of rivers, but also can create conditions like water logging and floods. It is very important to check and improve drainage systems in urban areas, and flood safety measures in rural areas.
