Pappu Yadav Remarks: Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav on Tuesday (04 February) raised a controversy by making a statement in the Lok Sabha. He wished politicians and rich people to die at the Mahakumbh Mela, so that they could get “salvation”. He said in his statement, “I will not take the name of ‘Baba’, but will quote him. He said that all the people who die in the stampede have attained ‘salvation’. Therefore, I want most ‘Baba’, politicians And people with big money also take a dip in the confluence and get ‘salvation’. I am saying that such ‘babas’ should get ‘salvation’. “
Aquarius stampede and dead bodies claim
Pappu Yadav claimed that on January 29, the number of people killed in the stampede on the day of Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj is much higher than the number mentioned by the government. He said that 300 to 600 bodies were removed and they were not cremated according to Hindu customs. However, according to the official data provided by the Uttar Pradesh government, 30 people were killed and 60 people were injured in the stampede.
Opposition uproar
There was a ruckus in both houses of Parliament over the stampede incident at the Kumbh Mela. Opposition parties accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding the government to tell the correct number of the dead. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the government was hiding the number of dead and demanded to highlight the “Missmangement” in the event. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also demanded a list of those killed in the Kumbh stampede.
BJP’s response
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party responded to the allegations of the opposition and said that the conspiracy behind the incident is smelling and action will be taken against the culprits after the investigation is completed.
