Muharram 2025: This time the month of Muharram has started from 26 June. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar which is celebrated as mourning and gum. In this month, people of Muslim community do not celebrate marriage or any auspicious event, only and only mourning. The special day of the month of Muharram is Ashura, which is on the 10th day. This time Ashura is on 6 July. In fact, on this day people remember the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Imam Hussain, who was martyred with their family in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

Also, wearing black clothes, take out a procession of mourning. At the same time, Sunni people keep Rosa on this day and offer Namaz.

The question arises that why do the people of Shia and Sunni community separate and celebrate Muharram? Scholar Maulana Qari Isaac Gora has given the historical reason behind it.

Why is Muharram celebrated in different ways?

Maulana Qari Isaac Blonde, an Islamic affairs expert and scholar living in Saharanpur It is said, ‘Muharram’s Faziram has been going on since a very old era. That is, it has been going on since the era of Prophet Mohammed. Actually, the Shia community celebrates it as a mourning that belongs to Imam Hussain and Sunni celebrates it in a different way. Which we will call differences but will not call discrimination.

Why did Shia-Sunni separate?

According to some legends, the differences between the two Shia and Sunni were connected with who would be the Khalifa. It is said that the differences between Shia and Sunni began after the death of Prophet Muhammad, due to which people of the Muslim community were divided into two separate groups. But what was the real reason for this?

According to Maulana Qari Isaac Gora‘Both Shia-Sunni are both of the same kall. That is, both of them believe in Prophet Muhammad. There was no debate among the people about the formation of Prophet Mohammed after death. Rather, everyone had said Labbacks (all had accepted their subjugation) about Khalifa Hazrat Abu Bakr becoming Khalifa). That is, he was first chosen as Khalifa. After Hazrat Abu Bakr, the second Khalifa became Hazrat Omar, after him Hazrat Usman was elected third Khalifa and after him the fourth Khalifa Hazrat Ali was made. After Khalifa Hazrat Ali, his elder son Hasan Ibn Ali was chosen as Khalifa. However, Hasan Ibn Ali handed over the Khilafat to Mu’awiya after some time.

After the death of Mu’awiya, his son Yazid got all his strength. Yazid wanted him to run Islam in his own way. He told Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed, to consider him as his Caliph and his order. Yazid felt that if Hussain considers him his Caliph, he would be able to control Islam well. But Imam Hussain flatly refused that he would not consider Yajid as his Caliph. Yazid did not like this at all. He started planning against Imam Hussain. Then Yajid sent his soldiers to Karbala and surrounded Imam Hussain and his companions. He pressurized them to consider him as his Caliph. But Imam Hussain refused again. After this Yajid declared the war.

From the 7th of Muharram, Yajid’s army stopped giving food and water to the companions of Imam Hussain. He was hungry and thirsty. Imam Hussain was very patient, but Yazid’s atrocities increased. There was a big fight on the 10th of Muharram. Yazid had more soldiers and weapons, while Imam Hussain had only 72 people. In this fight, Yajid’s army killed Imam Hussain and his comrades. Among them, Imam Hussain had 6 -month -old child Ali Asgar, 18 -year -old son Ali Akbar and 7 -year -old nephew Qasim. Therefore, the Muslim community remembers this day with great grief. For this reason, the month of Muharram is special and people express their sorrow in different ways.
