Mumbai Bomb Bost 2006: Justice after 19 years, Bombay High Court acquitted 12 prisoners in 7/11 blasts

The Division Bench of the Bombay High Court has given a historic verdict on Monday (July 21, 2025) in the Mumbai Local Train 7/11 bomb blasts case. After a long legal battle of 19 years, the forced Muslim youths got justice. The court termed the death sentence given by the special MCOCA court to 5 accused Ehtishham Qutubuddin Siddiqui, Kamal Ansari, Faisal Ata Urrahman Sheikh, Asif Bashir and Naved Hussain.

Along with this, the court also canceled the life sentence given to 7 accused Mohammad Ali Sheikh, Suhail Sheikh, Urrahman Latif Urrahman, Dr. Tanveer, Mujjam Ata Urrahman Sheikh, Majid Shafi and Sajid Margub Ansari. The Division Bench of the High Court, in which Justice A.S. Kulkarni and Justice Shyam C. Chandak were involved, pronounced the verdict at 9.30 am.

Win of justice, release of innocents

The court completely rejected the forced statement (confession) from the accused and called it illegal. Apart from this, the court did not accept the testimony of government witnesses. Maulana Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, called the decision a height of justice and a victory for truth, saying that it is a big day for families whose sons had been serving a sentence in jail for false charges for 17 years.

He said that we cannot even imagine this painful phase, which these innocents and their families spent for 19 years. This Jamiat Ulama is a historic victory of the Maharashtra Legal Sale, who fought a legal battle continuously and finally got the 12 innocent releases, in which 5 were hanged and 7 were imprisoned.

Calling a terrorist a well-conspired conspiracy

Maulana Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, said that our lawyers worked hard day and night and gave such concrete arguments that the entire lie of the prosecution was revealed. This decision once again proves the issue being raised for that long time that was a well-planned conspiracy to ruin Muslim youth in false charges of terrorism.

He said that it not only puts the innocent behind the bars of the jail, but also maligns a whole community. Until the accountability of police and investigative agencies is fixed, such incidents will continue to be repeated and the lives of innocents will continue to be ruined like this. Maulana Madani also said that in the current political situation, Muslims are an easy target for police and agencies.

Intentionally investigating the case of biased case

Former Chief Justice Orissa High Court and Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Advocate Justice Muralidhar commented that the investigation of the case was deliberately biased. He said that when public sentiments are enraged, people are proved guilty through media trial and later evidence is collected. This comment tells the reality of our country’s judicial system.

Conspirants get punishment

Maulana Madni said that the open exemption given by the departments implementing the law has made them unbridled, the worst example of which is the case. After the 19 -year sentence, the release was done, but those who conspired this, did not get any punishment nor were there any inquiry. He said that we heartily welcome this decision, but until the responsibilities are punished, it is considered incomplete.

He said that the propaganda campaign run by the media targeting Muslims is a blot on the democracy of this country. The court ordered in its judgment that if the accused are not wanted in any other case, then they should be released from jail immediately. Even Kamal Ansari, who died in jail, was also acquitted.

The accused were watching online hearing

When Justice Kulkarni was reading the verdict, the five accused who were sentenced to death were watching the online hearing. Earlier, there was disappointment on his faces, but as soon as the decision came in his favor, he became happy and thanked the court. Senior Advocate Yoga Mohit Chaudhary thanked the court and said that today’s decision will increase public confidence in the judiciary and will remain the supremacy of the law.

He also thanked the defensive advocates for giving full opportunity to debate. Chaudhary said emotionally that if the case was closely seen, then it is clear that false evidence was coined against the accused, which was confirmed by the court today.

Country’s famous criminal advocate involved

Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra Legal Cell took the services of the country’s renowned criminal advocates in this case, in which Senior Advocate S.K. Nagamuthu (former Judge Madras High Court), Senior Advocate Muralidhar (former Chief Justice Orissa High Court), Senior Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan (Supreme Court), Advocate Yoga Mohit Chaudhary and many other lawyers were included.

Advocate Abdul Wahab Khan, Advocate Sharif, Advocate Ansar Tamboli, Advocate Gaurav Bhavani, Aditya Aditya Mehta, Advocate Shahid Nadeem, Advocate Afzal Nawaz, Advocate Afzal Nawaz, Advocate Bilal etc. were entrusted with responsibilities to help them. Special MCOCA court judge YD Shinde had earlier sentenced Ehtishham Siddiqui, Kamal Ansari, Faisal Ata Urrahman, Asif Bashir and Naved Hussain to life and 7 others were sentenced to life imprisonment, while one accused Abdul Wahab was acquitted.
