Cyber ​​criminals in Mumbai lost Rs 2.89 crore to a woman as a government official, although the Mumbai Police got Rs 1.29 crore back. A Mumbai Police official gave this information on Thursday.

In fact, between Monday and Wednesday, cyber criminals cheated themselves as an officer, policeman and a judge of the Indian Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and cheated the 73 -year -old elderly woman living in Vile Parle area.

The police officer told PTI that the person who came as a TRAI officer in WhatsApp call told the woman that irregular financial transactions have been done from her account. Another accused threatened himself as a policeman and threatened that he was associated with a businessman being investigated for fraud and would be kept under digital arrest.

According to the police officer, the accused again told the elderly woman by making a video call that a judge would help her to avoid arrest. In this way, the accused got the woman transferred Rs 2.89 crore between Monday and Wednesday to avoid digital arrests.

But soon the victim woman realized that she was cheated and she informed the 1930 cyber helpline established to help the victims. The police officer said that after the case was registered on the NCPR portal, the cyber helpline cell was managed to get back Rs 1.29 crore out of Rs 2.89 crore. The investigation of the case is going on.
