Heavy rains have again put a brake at the speed of Mumbai. Due to the late night rains, the streets of Mumbai are flooded. The vehicles are stuck. Amidst torrential rains, the crisis on the people of Mumbai is increasing. Yesterday, Mumbai also received heavy rain, now the period of heavy rains continues from late night.

The Mumbai municipal body said that all government and semi-government offices in Mumbai will remain closed on Tuesday in view of the warning of extremely heavy rains issued by the Meteorological Department. All private companies in Mumbai have also been appealed to allow their employees to work from home and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a statement on Tuesday morning announced the closure of all government and semi-government offices as a precaution in the city and suburbs in view of continuous heavy rains and ‘red alerts’ issued by IMD. The statement said that this decision will be applicable to all BMC offices and state -run establishments except essential services.

An official said that till 8 am on Tuesday morning, the island city, eastern and western suburbs recorded an average rainfall of 186.43 mm, 208.78 mm and 238.19 mm respectively in the 24 -hour period.

In Tuesday’s forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “very heavy to extremely” rain in Mumbai city and suburbs, as well as sometimes strong winds at a speed of 45–55 kmph.

Let us know that the high tide was 3.75 meters high at 9.16 am and it is estimated to be 3.14 meters high at 8.53 pm. People complained of waterlogging on railway tracks in the low -lying areas of Dadar, Matunga, Parel and Sion. However, railway officials claimed that the water was below the track level and hence the movement of the trains was not affected, although the services were delayed.

Waterlogging was also reported in Hindmata, Andheri Subway and Eastern Express Highway, Mumbai-Gujarat Highway and parts of Eastern Freeway. Make the situation worse, the signaling system between Ambivali and Shahad stations on the Mumbai suburban network caused technical fault in the morning.

According to a spokesperson of Central Railway, local trains were running 10 minutes on the main line of Central Railway around 8 am and 5 minutes on the Harbor line. A Western Railway spokesperson said that due to poor visibility, his suburban services are running a bit late.
