New Delhi. Pakistan’s Hindu cricketer Danish Kaneria has once again complained of discrimination. Kaneria said that he faced discrimination in Pakistan due to his religion, due to which his career was ruined. Kaneria says that he did not get the same respect as other cricketers in his country. Kaneria lives in America these days.
Danish Kaneria on Wednesday participated in the Congressal briefing organized on the ‘plight of minorities in Pakistan’. He told ANI, ‘Today, we all gathered here. We all shared our experiences. How we all faced discrimination at some time and raised our voice against it. This happened to me too and my career was ruined. I did not get the honor in Pakistan that I deserved.
Kaneria, who played 61 Test matches for Pakistan, said, ‘We all need to speak against discrimination in Pakistan. It is necessary to tell the world, especially America, how people in Pakistan suffer. Danish Kaneria is the second Hindu to play cricket for Pakistan. His uncle Anil Dalpat has also been a Test cricketer of Pakistan. Apart from 61 Tests, Danish Kaneria has also played 18 ODIs.
Danish Kaneria was surrounded by controversies during his career. The England Cricket Board has imposed a lifetime ban on him on the charge of spot-fixing. Kaneria appealed against this ban, but was rejected in July 2013. Kaneria sought help from the Pakistan Cricket Board to remove the ban imposed by England. Danish Kaneria shifted to America after not getting help from the Pakistani board. They now coach the US club team.
