Myanmar’s military government has announced a temporary ceasefire till 22 April. After the powerful earthquake in the country, this announcement has been made to expedite relief and reconstruction work. More than three thousand people died in this earthquake, while 4,715 people were injured. At the same time, 341 people are still missing.

Myanmar’s Defense Services Commander-in-Chief Office issued a statement saying, “This ceasefire is being implemented to intensify sympathy and relief work towards earthquake victims. Along with this, attention is also being paid to maintaining peace and stability in the country.”

It is noteworthy that this fierce earthquake on March 28 and a few minutes later, 6.4 magnitude afterchock caused heavy havoc in many areas including Mandalay area. Roads, bridges and buildings suffered serious damage, causing a large number of people casualties.

The military government in its statement made it clear that no armed group would obstruct the traffic route of the citizens during the ceasefire, damage the general public or their properties, would not attack security forces camps or military bases and will stop any kind of military mobilization or regional expansion. It was told that if a group violates these rules, the army will take necessary security steps.

Earlier, Myanmar’s Prime Minister and military head Min Aung Holiing had rejected the proposal of ceasefire of ethnic armed organizations. He had said that some armed groups may not be involved in the war right now, but they are preparing for the attack. Therefore, the army will continue the security campaign.

The Department of Meteorological and Climate of Myanmar said on Thursday that 66 afterchoxes of 2.8 to 7.5 intensity have been recorded in the country, due to which there is a possibility of more damage.
