The story begins with five sisters, Maina, Bihula, Bhavani, Venhar and Padma. It is said that once Lord Shiva was taking a bath in the pond of Sondah. During this time, five hair was broken by his jata and these five sisters were born. These five sisters used to have ambitions to perform themselves in the death. He also sought worship from Shiva for himself, but Shiva refused and said- To get worship, one has to work like gods, public welfare has to be done. One of these five accepted Shivji’s talk, one started thinking that she would not know whether she would be able to do public welfare, no one was here, nor there, that is, could not take any decision, one thought that if more sisters would do, she would do the same, but one has decided that she will remain with worship.
Shivji sent the poison to Chandau Saudagar
Then Shivji told him about his devotee Chand (Chandau) Saudagar. He said- If the moon merchants accept your worship, then everyone will start giving you worship, go and try. Hearing this, the poisonous moon went through the merchant. The four sisters also followed him. The poisonous demanded worship from the moon merchant, but the moon merchant turned it down. Angry with this insult, the poison decided to take revenge. She was an expert in changing disguise. He disguised the Brahmin and started coming and going near the moon merchant.
The moon merchant saw that if the Brahmin is childless, he used to give respect to him, but did not agree with his mind. Then he did not even know that this Brahmin is poisonous. When the poisonous Brahmin went from him, the moon dealer used to remove the soil of the seating place of the poison and get it wrapped with cow dung. This insult was going to further instigate the poison. He decided to make the moon merchant childless.
Chand Saudagar had six sons. One by one, Vishhar sent a snake in the honeymoon of his marriage and stung him, which led to his death. Six daughters -in -law of the moon merchant became widowed, and his house drowned in mourning. The poison, which was still in the disguise of the Brahmin, was happy with this sad situation. After some time, the moon merchant received another son, named Bala Lakhandar. The Chand Saudagar, who was suffering from the grief of the death of his six sons, did not want to marry his seventh son, but Vishnhar disguised her in disguise and persuaded her to marry Bala Lakhandar.
Bala Lakhandar and Bihula married
Bala Lakhandar was married to Bihula. Bihula was a sensible and courageous woman. She knew the secret of the death of six sons of Chand Saudagar. He told his father Bechu Sahu that Bala will be the same with Lakhandar, which happened to his brother -in -law. He suggested a solution that a house should be built in which there is not a single hole so that the snake does not enter. The moon merchant gave a strong instruction to the artisans that if there was a single hole in the house, then his entire family would be sentenced to death, but poison did his move. He persuaded the artisan to leave a small hole, which was not easily seen.
When the house was ready, the moon merchant inspected it and did not see any shortage. He was satisfied. When Bihula came in-laws, she took a dog, a cat, a mongoose, a horse, a horse and agar-sandalwood from her maiden. In agar-sandalwood, the quality was that the dead person could be alive with snakebite, but all these precautions proved to be useless in front of the cleverness of the poison. In the honeymoon, when Bihula and Bala Lakhandar were in deep sleep, the poison sent a thin snake from that small hole. This snake was the sister of Bihula, whom Venus was intimidated. This was the same serpent, who had accepted Shivji’s public welfare, but due to fear of sister poison, she had reached Bala Lakhandar.

Nagin stung Bala Lakhandar, and he died. Bihula was in deep sleep, and her sleep was also the illusion of poison. When Bihula woke up, she found her husband dead. Her heart burst from sorrow, and she started crying after beating her chest. Her sister, who strown Bala, was under the bed there and started comforting Bihula. He said, “Don’t cry, sister. I can alive your husband right now, but it will not cause poison to kill your six Jeths. You have to take revenge on him. Be patient and go to Indralok with your husband’s body. From now on you.
Bihula obeyed her sister. He tied Bala Lakhandar’s corpse, two matki curd, four banana plants, and his sister (Naagin) in his joint. He also took the cat along and reached the banks of the Ganges. There she made a fleet with banana plants, placed her husband’s body on it and departed towards Indralok.
She kept applying curd on the corpse, so that it does not deteriorate. In between, he would clean the corpse by licking the curd with the cat and then applied a new paste. This journey lasted for twelve years. On the way, many people lured her, but Bihula never left her patriotism. Reghwa was a distant aunt of Bihula. Flowing Bihula reached there and heard the whole situation from aunt.
Reghwa advised him to go to Indralok, but on the way Netiya should be careful with Dhobin, who is a demon. Bihula won her trust by making Netia her aunt. Netiya took her to Indralok, where Bihula narrated her tragedy in front of Indra. Indra said- Okay, if you prove all the whatever you are saying, then your husband and six jeths will be made alive. Hearing this, Bihula opened his juda and in front of the same serpent who threatened Bala Lakhandar.
Then he said- all the truth should be heard from this serpent and Netia Dhobin should also be asked where my brother-in-law is. Hearing this, Netia Dhobin said- its brothers had also flowed into the river, so I had kept everyone’s life kite and kept it in my house. The God of Indra became angry. He sent messengers to call the poisonous. The messenger brought the poison to the poison. The serpent opened the whole mystery in front of the poison. With this, cut the poison, there is no blood, but now she could not do anything.
Indra gave a boon to Bihula
Indra alive Bihula’s brother -in -law and Bala Lakhandar. Bihula tied her in a lanyard to punish the poison. On the way, he also punished those who lured him. Then Bihula returned to her city. On the strength of his husband and sattva, he again attained the destroyed property of the moon merchant. Removed the blindness of his mother-in-law and made his seven sons alive in front of him. The poison was buried in the pit. Bihula and Bala Lakhandar ruled for a few years and then departed Indralok. This story is a unique saga of sativa, dedication and courage. The serpent who helped Bihula, Bihula gave him great respect and she became the Rakshaika Devi of the serpents. That day he understood that anyone can become a god or goddess by doing public welfare, having a sense of sacrifice.
Padma Naagin, the daughter of Shivji, is called Mansa Mata in folklore. They are shown with a swan ride, sitting on the lotus. He has one snake in both his hands. One of them is the same serpent poison, who had hurt Bihula. Padma shows her to show her tightness in her hand that Padma controlled her. Another serpent in the other hand is the one who followed the poison. There is also a serpent by becoming a umbrella on the head, this is the sister who thought that the elder sisters will also see what she would do. A serpent is under the feet, which neither stayed here nor there. In this way, these five sisters are the complete form of Goddess Mansa together.
However, there is also a belief that Sati Bihula is the goddess and these five serpents are under her control. Because one of the five daughters of Shiva also comes from Bihula Vishwari. Therefore, it is considered as Mansa.
Many forms of the story of Bihula-Vahri
There is a more version of the story of Bihula-Vahri which is quite popular. According to him, in view of the unethical acts done in the wrath of Mansa poison and pride, Shivji appears to the house of Chando Saudagar. He explains to Mansa that such a goddess is not made, but Mansa does not agree and says that she will remain with the puja. Then Shiva says that, what will you do if the puja is found, then Mansa says that I will make Bala Lakhandar and his brothers alive.
On this, Shiva says, Chando Saudagar, you worship Mansa by saying me. On this, Saudagar tells Shivji that Lord, I am your devotee and Mansa has neglected me a lot, yet I have no hatred with Mansa, but with which I worship you, I cannot worship Mansa with my hands. It is said that the left -handed worship is neither successful nor gives any fruit. I will worship Mansa with left hand. In this way, the moon merchants offer Mansa with the left hand, and offers Akshat-Phool, Roli and Kalewa. Gives water with the left hand and holds the aarti by holding it in the left hand.
Mansa is also pleased with this, then Shiva says that now make everyone alive as his promise. Mansa tries to make everyone alive by raising his hand, but is unable to do it. Then she loses and falls at the feet of Shiva. Then Shiva says that giving an abyss to someone is not a miracle, the deity is worshiped because of his duties, not with the powers. Now Mansa understands what she was making mistake. She apologizes to everyone and goes for penance. Then Shivji donates life to the whole family of Chando Saudagar and gives Bihula the status of Goddess due to her sattva.
On the other hand, on the strength of penance, Mansa also gets involved in public welfare by sattvik intellect and does welfare of people. Due to the power of her poisoning, she becomes a poisonous goddess and becomes revered in the name of Mansa. Even today, Mansa Devi is worshiped with left hand.
