A sub-inspector of Mumbai Police in Nagpur district of Maharashtra has been accused of sexual harassment of his own colleague’s wife. The accused is posted at Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station in Mumbai. The victim is the wife of a police constable. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against the accused under the Code of India and Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to the information, the victim along with her husband went on a family picnic in Kondhali area of Nagpur in February 2024. At the same time, the accused sub-inspector was also present. The victim alleges that the accused sexually harassed her during the picnic. After this, on 13 May, he entered her house in Hingna area of Nagpur and again sexually assaulted her.
The woman first kept silence due to shame and social pressure, but when the acts of the accused started crossing the limits, she told her husband the whole thing. After this, both reached Kondhali police station and lodged a complaint. A police team has been sent to Mumbai to arrest the accused. The victim and her husband are residents of Gadchiroli district. The accused is her husband’s childhood friend.
This is not the first case when a police officer in Maharashtra is accused of sexual harassment. Earlier, in the year 2022, a woman in Thane district accused the police constable of molesting the office. At the same time, in October 2023, a woman colleague filed a complaint of mental harassment and inappropriate behavior against an assistant police inspector in Andheri area of Mumbai.
