Neeraj Chopra will land in Bangalore on Saturday (July 5) against some familiar rivals in the NC Classic spear throw competition. He will try to cross 90 meters for the second time this year. This event will start at 6.30 pm.

During the competition to be held at Kantirwa Stadium, fans will get a chance to see this double Olympic medalist in action. Neeraj, who threw more than 90 meters for the first time in Doha in May, will try to achieve the same distance again. He is competing in India after a gap of one year.
This Dhurandhar athlete of Khandra village in Haryana, who has won India the first gold medal in athletics at the Tokyo Olympics, said, ‘It was my dream to organize such a competition in India which is now being fulfilled. I am very excited. I have won Olympics and other medals for the country. Now through this event, I am giving some back to Indian athletics, players and fans.
This competition is being organized in association with Neeraj Chopra JSW Sports, Indian Athletics Federation (AFI) and World Athletics. Neeraj said that NC Classic will be held every year and in future, other sports besides spears will also be added.
Earlier the program was to be held on May 24 in Panchkula (Haryana), but due to insufficient lighting for international broadcasters, it was transferred to Bengaluru. The event was later postponed due to the military conflict between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.
It will be the most high-profile single event international athletics competition to be held in India, which has been given the status of category A by World Athletics. However, due to the absence of some players, the level of competition has been slightly affected. Two -time world champion Anderson Peters (Grenada) is out due to injury, but Neeraj’s popularity is expected to be full.
The competition of 12 players is still world -class, of which 5 have already qualified for the World Champinship to be held in Tokyo this year.
Neeraj’s coach and world record holder Jan Jelejni has also reached the city and Indian fans will get an opportunity to see this legend.
Neeraj is the most strong contender in the competition. Julian Weber is not participating and Peters are also out. Both of them gave Neeraj the most tough competition this season. Germany’s Weber defeated Neeraj twice, but Neeraj defeated him in the Paris Diamond League. Peters finished third twice.
Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem was also invited, but he refused citing his training schedule.

Sachin Yadav is in excellent form among four other Indian players and has recently won a silver medal in the Asian Championship. Yashveer Singh, who replaced the injured Kishore Jena, finished 5th in the Asian Championships. Two Indian players Rohit Yadav (2023 have participated in the World Championship) and Sahil Silwal.
NC classic will be important for all these as they will not only compete with a few top thrins, but can also qualify for this year’s World Championship by crossing the 85.50 meter entry standard or can achieve valuable marks to make it to the World Championship through the World Ranking Kota.
