Financial fraud: There has been a big disclosure in the scam of Rs 122 crore in New India Cooperative Bank. According to sources in the Economic Offenses Branch (EOW), the bank’s vice chairman Hiren Bhanu and his wife and bank chairman Gauri Bhanu are the main accused in this case. Sources in the investigating agency claim that both the wanted accused have left the country and escaped.
EOW officials informed that both these accused had left the country before the Mumbai Police received information about the scam. A complaint was lodged by the bank administration on February 13 in the EOW, but before that Hiren Bhanu had gone abroad in the last week of January, while his wife Gauri Bhanu ran away in the second week of February.
RBI investigation revealed scam
The information of the scam came to light when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) inspected the bank on 12 February. In this inspection, Rs 122 crore was found missing from the chest of the bank. After this, on February 13, a bank official informed the EOW and on 14 February, EOW started investigating by registering an FIR in this case.
Police investigation revealed new aspects of scam
In this scam, former general manager of the bank arrested by the police, Hitesh Mehta made a big disclosure. He told that out of the missing Rs 122 crore, he had given Rs 24 crore to Vice Chairman Hiren Bhanu. Apart from this, some amount was also given to Gauri Bhanu, chairman of the bank and wife of Hiren Bhanu.
EOW investigation intensified, search for absconding accused continues
Now the team of EOW is closely investigating this entire matter and is trying to find out the absconding accused. Officials say that the rest of the bank officials and employees associated with the case will also be questioned so that the whole truth of this scam can be revealed.
