There is a rule of player replacement in IPL which has not been used even once in 17 years.
New Delhi. There are many rules in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that increase its thrill. The impact player rule has changed its picture. In this T20 league, there is another rule related to the replacement of the players, which can be a gamechanger. In this rule, the franchisees are injured when the players get injured, that they can choose another player for a partial or entire season. It is also true that this rule has never been used in the history of 17 years of IPL.
The BCCI has made special rules for replacement when the players are injured. According to the report of Cricbuzz, the BCCI has told all the franchisees under which circumstances such partial replacement is allowed. The board makes a list of players for this, which is called ‘registered available player pool’. Any team can choose a player for themselves from this pool if needed.
How can the players of this pool be a part of a team, can understand it in easy language. Suppose all the wicketkeepers of a team are injured and are not available for one or more matches. Such a team can request the BCCI to choose a player from the pool.
The BCCI will consider the request of the team concerned that it should be allowed to choose wicketkeeper as a temporary replacement from the registered pool. This discount will remain until all the wicketkeepers already in the team are injured. As soon as a wicketkeeper already involved in the team fit, this discount will end. One thing is clear in this rule that replacement can be an Indian player, not foreigner. Let us know that IPL 2025 is starting from March 22.
