Another new rule has come regarding toll payment. The government has introduced this rule to promote digiton payment and reduce cash payment on toll plaza. Under the changed rule, different types of charge will be charged on the basis of its payment on the entry of any vehicles with non-fastag on the National Highway.
If the users make cash payment, then they will have to pay double the toll tax applied. However, if the same users make UPI or any other digital payment, then this tax will be 1.25 times. Currently, double tax is taken from both cash and UPI payment. This means that on payment from UPI, non-Fastag users will have to pay less tax. This is a major discount for fastened vehicles.
New rule 15 will be applicable from Nambwar
This change has been taken to increase digital payment and reduce cash transactions on Toll Plaza. This rule will also bring a big change in the methods of payment on tolls. This rule will be considered effective from 15 November. It has been notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Third Amendment) Rules, 2025.
Understand how much tax will be taken from the example?
If the toll fee is Rs 100 through a fastag for a vehicle, then it will be Rs 200 on paying cash, but it will only be Rs 125 on payment of cash through UPI. This means that from November 15, non-Fastag users can save Rs 75 for payment from UPI.
Toll jam will be less
The move aims to encourage digital transactions, improve transparency and increase efficiency on toll plazas, which will reduce vehicles toll jams and improve travel time for highway users. The ministry said that this amendment strengthens the government’s commitment to avail technology for smooth, intense and more transparent toll collection on the National Highway Network of India.
