New km based toll tax policy: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to introduce a new toll policy in the country. Under this new policy, the drivers will have to pay only the toll tax as the kilometer. That is, the new toll policy will recover the kilometer based tax. Although no official announcement has been made by the government yet, it is being discussed a lot in media reports. So let’s know what is this kilometer based toll policy-
An ET reports stated that under this policy, fastags and cameras will be installed at every toll booth and the toll will be directly recovered from the car owner’s bank account. The government is in the process of starting an advanced advance system based on automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to easily implement the new toll policy. This policy has been made to provide relief to people traveling on expressways and national highways across the country.
Let us know that at present, as per the National Highway Fee Rules, 2008, users have to pay a fixed amount toll fee based on the length of the road under a road project, which is usually 60 km. If this new policy is implemented, then it will only make the journey easy but will also be economical.
How will this system work?
According to the report, the cameras installed at the toll booth will record the number plate of the car and the toll will be cut from the banks connected to the fastag. Apart from this, the toll tax will be charged according to the journey of the kilometer fixed by the vehicle. That is, the user will have to pay only the toll as he has traveled.
If the balance is low according to the toll amount in the user’s bank, then penalty can be imposed. Also, according to the current policy, the user will have to pay toll for at least 60 kilometers. Since the new policy is going to be a kilometer based, it is expected to be more economical for passengers.
It has also been said in the reports that in the new toll policy, the toll can also be made barrier-free. This will help in making the journey even more convenient. If this happens, long waiting lines will get rid of toll booths on highways and expressways across the country. Apart from this, relief is also expected from the situation of dispute.
A few days ago it was also reported that the Government of India is also considering issuing the Fastag Anunual Pass for Fastag. Under which the drivers will have to pay only once and they will be able to travel throughout the year. It was suggested in this proposal that users would have to pay Rs 3,000 for this annual pass. However, no official announcement has been made about the fastag pass yet.
