Nirmala Sitharaman Attack on Congress: During the discussion on Manipur violence in the Rajya Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a scathing attack on the Congress. He alleged that there was a large -scale violence in Manipur during the Congress rule, but no minister of the central government visited there.

Sitharaman said that from 2002 to 2017, there was a Congress government in Manipur, while before 2014 there was a Congress -led government at the Center. During this period, 628 times closed and blockade, which led to a financial loss of Rs 2828 crore to the state. He said that in 2011, the economic shutdown lasted for 120 days, causing a huge shortage of essential commodities. The price of petrol reached ₹ 200 per liter and the price of gas cylinder reached ₹ 2000.

BJP government’s activism in Manipur
Sitharaman said on the current situation that when the recent tension started in Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah was constantly present in the state. He stayed in Manipur for four days and met various communities. Efforts were made to monitor relief work and restore peace. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stayed in Manipur for 23 days.

Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and response to Sitharaman
When the Finance Minister mentioned the violence of Manipur during the Congress rule, the opposition MPs raised strong objections. Many MPs, including Sushmita Dev of Trinamool Congress, protested against her statement. To this, Sitharaman said, “He has to show his Chief Minister (Mamta Banerjee) that he protested.

Attack on CPM and Congress
Sitharaman also reacted to the opposition of CPM MPs, saying that “there were severe riots in West Bengal under CPM rule, violence also took place in Tripura and chaos spread in Kerala.” Giving the example of violence during the Congress rule, he said, “In 1993, there was a struggle between the cookie and Naga communities during the Congress government, in which 750 people were killed.
350 villages were burnt, but the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and Home Minister Shankar Rao Chavan did not go to Manipur. At the same time, 350 people died in Manipur in 1997-98, but he also did not visit Manipur. “
