New Delhi. After the embarrassing defeat against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma and senior player Virat Kohli have come under criticism. Team India ended the year with its worst season in the history of Test cricket. For the first time, Team India failed to make it to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). After poor performance in the last few series, the blame may fall on coach Gautam Gambhir.
The Indian team suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand after 12 years. This was the first time that Team India faced a whitewash in a Test series of three or more matches while playing at home. After this, India also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after 10 years.
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma’s form was very poor in Australia. He scored only 31 runs in five innings. Virat Kohli started the first test with a century but disappointed after that. He could not score a single half-century in the remaining matches and scored 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.95. Gautam Gambhir’s coaching debut was also disappointing. Before the poor performance against New Zealand and Australia, India also lost a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka after 27 years.
No action against Gambhir, Rohit, Virat
According to a report by news agency IANS, Gambhir, Rohit and Virat will retain their places despite their poor performance in the last few months. According to the information, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold a review meeting but no one will be ‘fired’. A BCCI source told IANS, “Yes, there will be a review meeting, but no one will be expelled. You cannot remove a coach for the poor performance of the batsmen in a series. Gautam Gambhir will remain the coach, and Virat and Rohit will play in the England series. The focus now is on the Champions Trophy.”
