Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha that the Waqf Act and Waqf Board came into force in 1995, and all the claims being made about the participation of non-Muslims are completely wrong. He said that the opposition wants to break this country. He said that ‘I want to tell the Muslims of the country that not a single non-Muslim will come in your waqf. There is no such provision in this Act, but the Waqf Board and the Waqf Council will now take out those who sell the wealth of Waqf, catch those who give their property in the name of Waqf for 100 years. The income of Waqf is decreasing, the income from which we have to develop for minorities and they have to pursue them, which money is being stolen. Waqf boards and councils will catch him.
Amit Shah said that some people are spreading rumors that this act will interfere with the religious rights of the Muslim community and their properties. This is completely wrong and is a conspiracy to scare only minorities, so that they can be used as a vote bank.
‘Waqf Board does not have to do religious activities’
Amit Shah said about the Waqf properties that there was no provision to include a non-Muslim person in the institutions associated with Waqf and the NDA government is also not going to make any changes in this policy. He clarified that the work of Waqf Board and Waqf Council is to take action against those who are selling Waqf’s properties incorrectly. We did not tamper with Waqf. Amended for Waqf Board and Waqf Council. Its functioning is administrative. The Waqf Board does not have to do religious activities. We are not touching Mutavalli.
‘Only Muslim will remain in religious works’
Amit Shah said that when the Waqf Bill was changed in 2013 during the UPA government, the Waqf Amendment Bill was brought to 2024 to remove that mistake. In 2013, the law that was introduced by the then UPA government to replace the Waqf Bill, after which 21 lakh hectares of additional land was claimed. However, the total land which has been claimed is more than 30 lakh hectares. He said that not a single Muslim’s rights will be taken away across the country. After the arrival of this bill, anyone can remain in the administrative functioning of Waqf, but only Muslims will remain in religious works.
