The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Saturday that after passing 12th, Common University Entrance Exam (CUET-ig) will be held from 8 May to 1 June for admission to various courses. Applications for the examination have started from March 1 and will be open till 22 March. Agency officials said that the dates of the examination are temporary and a detailed program will be announced later.
Examination 13 languages ​​- English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu will be held. CUET-AG was introduced in 2022 for admission in central, state and select private universities. Earlier, the candidates had to give a separate entrance exam for every university, which used to bring a lot of financial burden on them. But CUET-Og finished it, limiting it to just one exam.
Now the candidates take the CUET-ig exam and they are allotted universities based on the marks obtained by them. The National Education Policy (NEP) assesses CUET-NG candidates on the basis of language skills, domain-specific subjects and general aptitude as per 2020. In 2024, about 13.47 lakh candidates had registered for CUET-NG, while in 2023 the number was 14.99 lakhs.
Last year, the CUET-OG exam was conducted in the hybrid model between 15 and 29 May, which allowed both online and offline examinations. The candidates included 7.17 lakh students, 6.30 lakh students and 7 transgender. Centers were set up in a total of 379 cities for the examination, including 26 cities outside India. This year, the CUET-NG score will be accepted by 287 universities across India. That is, candidates who want admission in these universities will have to sit in the CUET-OG exam.
