New Delhi. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) director Shyam Sundar Sharma said that the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 tournament plans to increase the number of teams to eight in the second session. The inaugural session of DPL was held last year, in which six teams participated in the franchise -based tournament representing various areas of Delhi.

Sharma told ‘PTI Video’ about the DDCA’s plan to expand the tournament, “We are thinking about increasing the facilities in DPL. Negotiations are also going on to increase the number of teams (to six to eight). The upcoming session of DPL will begin in the first or second week of August. ”Sharma said that DDCA is happy that the players who were part of DPL last year got a chance to be a part of the Indian Premier League in large numbers this year.

He said, “A total of 14 cricketers who participated in DPL have become part of the IPL. These include players like Digvesh Rathi, Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya. ”He said that DDCA also plans to promote women’s cricket. DDCA has recently started women’s T20 tournament in which 41 affiliated clubs are participating.

The Indian Cricket Board has handed over the three-match ODI series to Delhi and Mullanpur to be hosted between Australia and India’s women’s teams due to renewal of Chidambaram Stadium’s outfield and pitches in Chennai’s Chidambaram Stadium. Sharma said that DDCA is ready to provide the best facilities to the players. He said, “We (for women’s ODI) will provide excellent facilities. We will have many plans to increase the interest of the audience. We have a good curator staff and everything is ready for the Australia series. ”
