A case of cheating of crores has come up in the name of getting land in Ganjam district of Odisha. The Barahampur police on Saturday arrested a real estate agent, who is accused of cheating more than Rs 5 crore from about 200 people on the pretext of giving residential plots. The accused has been identified as Chetan Kumar Chaudhary. He is the son of the former president of the district unit of a political party.
A police officer said that the accused Chetan is a resident of Gosaninuagaon area of Barahampur. He was running a plan to get a residential plot from August 2019. Through the staff of his office, he collected money from the common people in monthly installments and promised them that they would be allocated plots by September 2021. 200 people got trapped in his trap.
After this, people demanded their land on time, then Chetan Chaudhary refused to take responsibility. He claimed that the receipts were fake. He has no information about the plan. Investors cheated were enraged by this behavior. After this, on Saturday, a victim lodged a complaint of cheating against the accused at Barhampur police station.
On the basis of the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a case against Chetan Chaudhary under various sections of the Indian Justice Code and started investigation. A police team has been formed to investigate the matter. The police have seized documents related to the land scheme, layout plan of the proposed plot, receipts of funds and daily collection slips from his possession.
SP Saravan Vivek M, SP of Barhampur, said that preliminary investigation has revealed that this fraud was done through a wide monthly investment scheme. Chetan Chaudhary continued to take money by showing the dream of plot to the people and gradually the web of cheating reached more than 5 crore rupees. The police also informed that another case is already pending against Chetan Chaudhary in Bada Bazaar police station.
