Things have become tense after violent clashes during Durga Puja immersion in Cuttack, Odisha on Sunday. The administration has implemented Section 144 throughout the city. Internet service is also closed. The deployment of police force in sensitive areas has been increased.
Pooja committees protested, demanding the arrest of the accused. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called a 12 -hour bandh from morning to evening on Monday. The VHP spokesperson said- The administration could not ensure peaceful immersion despite repeated requests.

According to the police, the quarrel began when some local people opposed the loud -sounding music playing in the procession. The dispute increased in a short time. Stones and bottles began to be thrown from the roofs, injuring many people. The injured include DCP player Rishikesh Gyan Dev.
The police also had to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Many vehicles and shops were broken. The immersion remained stopping for about three hours. Later, immersion started again under tight security and the immersion of all the idols was completed by 9:30 am.
Rough riot set 10 places
Assistant Fire Officer Sanjeeb Kumar Behera said that the rioters set fire to several places near Gaurishankar Park. We were reported to have caught fire at 8-10 places. The fire was extinguished, but the crowd was throwing stones at us too. The police is handling the situation on the spot.
Also told that additional police forces have been deployed in major areas of the city. Senior police officers are monitoring the situation so that there is no further violence.
CM said- strict action will be taken against the culprits
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi: Accused anti -social elements of disturbing communal harmony. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. The injured will be treated free of cost.
