Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday (August 2, 2025) that 3 unidentified miscreants allegedly set fire to a 15 -year -old girl in Puri district. The victim died during treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

Odisha police recorded statement at Delhi AIIMS

The victim had scorched more than 70 percent. He was first taken to the Pipili Community Health Center on 19 July. Later the same day AIIMS was taken to Bhubaneswar and the next day was taken by air to AIIMS in Delhi, where at least two ‘surgery’ and ‘skin grafting’ were done. The Odisha Police on Friday recorded the victim’s statement in the presence of a magistrate at Delhi AIIMS.

What did the CM of Odisha say?

Majhi said in a post on X, ‘I am deeply shocked to hear the news of the death of the victim of Balga area. Despite all the efforts of the government and the round -the -clock efforts of the AIIMS expert medical team in Delhi, his life could not be saved. I pray for the peace of the victim’s soul and pray to God to give his family the power to bear this irreparable damage. Odisha Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Dev and P. Parida have also mourned the death of the victim.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the death of the minor victim and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. A delegation of BJD MPs led by Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra said that they are going to AIIMS in Delhi.

What did the police tell?

The Odisha police also expressed grief over the incident and claimed that the investigation of the burning of the victim had reached the final stage. The police claimed that no other person was involved in the incident and appealed to everyone not to make a sensational statement on the matter.

Odisha Police said in a post on X, “We have been deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of the victim girl in the Balga incident. The police has investigated it honestly. The investigation has reached its final stage. According to the investigation done so far, it is clear that no other person is involved in it. Therefore, we request all not to make any sensitive comments about this matter during this sad moment. ”

Bhakta Charan Das, president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), expressed condolences and demanded the arrest of three convicts within 7 days. Das said, “If the culprits are not caught within seven days, we will surround the DGP office.” He said that 15 days have passed since the incident of setting the girl on fire, but the police have not been able to catch any criminal involved in this case. Meanwhile, sources said that Puri police have deployed some policemen near the house of the deceased girl in Balga.
