The Uttar Pradesh Police seized 1,007 illegal e-rickshaws on Wednesday and challaned 3,093. Earlier, action was taken on Tuesday. Action was taken against more than eight thousand people in two days. Officials said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the police had initiated extensive action a day earlier. According to officials, the campaign was launched last week after raping and killing a female passenger by an auto driver in Lucknow. The accused was killed in a police encounter on 21 March.

In the official statement, Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said that the campaign was started on Tuesday on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi. The statement said that on the second day of the campaign, 1,007 e-rickshaws were seized and 3093 were challaned. The statement further stated that on the first day of the campaign, the authorities seized 915 e-rickshaws across the state and issued challans to 3,035 violator. The Transport Commissioner said that action will continue. During this, awareness campaign was also conducted.

According to the news agency, the Nodal Officer of the campaign Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) Sanjay Singh said that action was taken against 444 illegal e-rickshaws in Agra division on Wednesday, while 377 in Lucknow division, 277 in Kanpur and 257 in Ghaziabad division action were taken against 257 illegal e-rickshaws. He informed that action was taken against 216 in Jhansi, 161 in Varanasi, 140 in Aligarh division, 135 in Ayodhya and 120 in Moradabad division.

Big action took place on the first day

Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said that according to the instructions of the Chief Minister, this special campaign was started from Tuesday. On the very first day, 915 e-rickshaws were seized and 3035 drivers were challaned. The campaign is being regularly monitored and the responsibility of the officers has been fixed at the district level so that this campaign can be effectively operated. During the campaign, it was ensured that the operation of unauthorized and without registration should be stopped. Also, strict action was taken against the drivers who were violating the rules.

Regular monitoring of this entire campaign is being done from the headquarters. In every district, officials have been strictly instructed to submit a report of daily action. The Transport Department is fully committed to the success of this campaign and no laxity will be tolerated in it. This special campaign will be run across the state by 30 April.
