Venkatesh Iyer said that hitting sixes on every ball is not aggression

New Delhi. Venkatesh Iyer of Kolkata Knight Riders scored a brilliant half -century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, leaving behind the slow start of IPL 2025. Iyer is the most expensive all -rounder in IPL history. He was signed by KKR for Rs 23.75 crore last year. Against Hyderabad, Venkatesh scored 60 runs in 29 balls which included seven fours and three sixes. Thanks to this innings, the team scored 200 runs for 6 wickets.

KKR batted vigorously adding 78 runs in the last five overs and proved to be out of target reach for SRH. In 16.4 overs, the entire team was all out for 120 runs. The partnership between Iyer and Rinku Singh (32* runs, 17 balls) brought KKR to a strong score. Both added 91 runs for the fifth wicket.

Iyer later said that KKR is not aiming to kill every ball outside the park, but a target is to make “20 runs more than cross score”. Iyer said after the match, “It is very important for us to show positive but right intention. If we are 6 on 50 and I still try to kill everything, it is positive, but it is not right. This is not right. Aculture does not mean to kill every ball for sixes.

He said, “We don’t want to be the team that scored 250 runs while playing well and when not, we want to be out on 70. We want to be a team that understands the pitch and circumstances quickly. Assess the cross score and try to make 20 runs more than the cross score,”
