One nation one election: The Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) has announced an important step to take an important step regarding the ‘One Nation One Election’ Bill. The head of the committee P.P. Chaudhary said that a website will be launched soon where the general public and experts will be able to share their opinion. The objective of this initiative is to ensure widespread participation of the public and keep in mind all aspects on this constitutional subject.
In the fourth meeting of the committee held on Tuesday (March 11), the subject was discussed with legal experts. In the meeting, former Chief Justice of the country Ranjan Gogoi and former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Rajendra Menon presented their views. He explained aspects related to the legal, constitutional and federal structure of this bill and answered the questions of the members of the committee. Also, the outline of the proposed website was also discussed in this meeting.
Public will be able to give suggestions directly from the website
JPC chief P.P. Chaudhary said that this website will be widely promoted. The government will share the QR code of the website through advertising in TV and newspapers, so that people will be able to scan it and register their opinion. This step has been taken with the aim of making this bill more transparent and democratic.
Questions raised on constitution and federal structure
During the meeting, opposition MPs raised many important questions related to this bill. He expressed concern about the spending cut, possible complications in the election process and the possibility of President’s rule. In the event of separation from the Lok Sabha elections, its legal effects were also discussed. Experts answered all these issues from legal and constitutional perspectives.
According to sources, the next meeting of the committee will be held on March 17. In this meeting, well-known law expert Harish Salve and India’s Attorney General R.K. Venkataraman will be involved. He will present his opinion before the committee on the legal, administrative and political aspects of the ‘one country, one election’. This meeting is expected to bring more clarity on the bill.
