The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is going to seize crores of crores of players and actors soon. This action will be taken in the promotion case of online betting app 1xbet under the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA).
The official source told the news agency PTI that some celebrities have used the advertisement money received from the 1xbet app to buy different assets. In such a situation, they have been considered as the property earned from the Prosecution of Crime.
The ED will soon issue an order to seize these movable and immovable properties of celebrities. Some celebrities also have properties in countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They are currently being priced and evaluated.
According to the rules, the assets related to crime are confiscated so that the guilty cannot take advantage of them. After the order is issued, it will be sent to the Adjudicating Authority constructed under PMLA and a charge sheet will be filed as soon as the court gets approval.
In the last few weeks, the ED has questioned cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa and Shikhar Dhawan, actor Sonu Sood, actress Mimi Chakraborty (former TMC MP) and Ankush Hazra (Bengali Cinema) in the 1xbet app case. Some online influencers were also questioned.
When did ED interrogate the betting case
September 23: Yuvraj Singh arrives at Delhi ED office. The officials here questioned him for 7 hours in the promotion case of the online betting app (1xbet).
September 24: ED team questioned actor Sonu Sood in Delhi office for about 7 hours. The statement has been recorded under PMLA.
Fraud of crores and tax evasion investigation
This investigation is related to illegal betting apps. The company is alleged to have cheated crores of rupees from people and investors or stolen tax on a large scale.
The company claims that 1xbet is a global recognized bookie, which has been in the betting industry for the last 18 years. Its customers can bet on thousands of sports events. The company’s website and apps are available in 70 languages. 1xbet is a chance based games app.
Government banned betting app
Fantasy sports such as Dream-11, Rumi, Poker, etc. are all online betting apps. This decision has been taken after the recently passed online gaming bill of the Government of India after 2025. The online betting app is completely banned under this bill.
In 2017, the Supreme Court described fantasy games like Dream-11 as a game of skills. However, the betting app was never legal in India.
Online betting app is suffering financial loss
The government says that people are suffering mental and financial loss due to online betting app. Some people drowned so much in gaming addiction that they lost their lives and in some cases, reports of suicide were also revealed.
Apart from this, there are also concerns about money laundering and national security. The government wants to take strict steps to stop it.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in the monsoon session of Parliament, “Online money games are causing a major problem in the society. They are increasing drugs, the savings of families are ending.
It is estimated that around 45 crore people are affected by this and middle-class families have lost Rs 20,000 crore. ”He also said that the World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized it as a gaming disorder.
