Operation Sindoor: Some incidents are not just dates in history, they shake the consciousness of a nation. On the night of 6 May 2025, one such date was formed when India gave a befitting reply to the murder of its innocent citizens. This military action called ‘Operation Sindoor’ not only demolished the terrorist bases of Pakistan, but also gave a message that India no longer is silent.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about Operation Sindoor on 6 June, there was a wave of pride and valor across the country. He said- “Now Pakistan will remember its shameful defeat as soon as you hear the name of ‘Operation Sindoor’.” This statement was not just a word, it was the announcement of that changed strategy of India in which terror is now replied with decisive action, not just condemnation.
Why did the operation vermilion?
On 22 April 2025, there was a barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 innocent civilians (25 Indians and 1 Nepali). Especially Hindu men were targeted in the attack. Investigation revealed that Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Resistance Front (TRF) were involved in this attack-and all of them were the instigation of Pakistan. India clarified that Islamabad is in collusion behind this attack, although Pakistan dismissed these allegations as usual.
Indus Water Treaty suspended
In response to this terrorist attack, India took a historic step on 23 April 2025 and the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 was suspended. For decades, Pakistan continued to get 80% water under this treaty, but after this decision, there was a serious water shortage, which increased its anxiety and discomfort.
Operation Sindoor: When and how did action?
India retaliated within just two weeks of the attack, between 1:05 am to 1:30 pm on the night of 6 and 7 May. This mission was a pledge to provide justice to the widowed women whose husbands were killed in the Pahalgam attack, hence the operation was named ‘Sindoor’.
Participation of all three armies together
The Army, Air Force and Navy – all three armies jointly participated in this operation. This was the 2016 surgical strike and the third major military reply after the 2019 Balakot AIRRIC. In this 25 -minute action, Indian forces accurately destroyed 24 goals.
