Pakistan becomes temporary member of UNSC, vows to fight against terrorism – Pakistan In UNSC Non Permanent Member United Nation PAK Terrorism NTC

Pakistan has assumed its responsibility as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council for two years. The neighboring country assumed membership of UNAC from January 1. Pakistan’s top diplomat to the UN, Munir Akram, said the Pakistani delegation would play a role in providing “proactive and constructive” solutions to global challenges, and work to prevent the negative effects of terrorism.

According to the United Nations website, Pakistan will also hold the presidency of the Security Council from July 1 to December 31, 2026. Pakistani diplomat Munir Akram said that “our presence will be felt in the Security Council.” This is the eighth time that Pakistan has got a place in the 15-member panel of the Security Council.

Pakistan’s election was held with 182 votes

Pakistan was elected to the temporary membership of the Security Council in June 2024 with 182 votes in the 193-member General Assembly, whereas it requires the votes of only 124 member countries. Pakistan has replaced Japan, which currently holds the Asian seat in the Security Council, thereby appealing for global peace.

Sworn to fight against terrorism

Munir Akram, Pakistan’s UN permanent member, said, “As a responsible country – the fifth largest by population – Pakistan, in accordance with the UN Charter, is committed to preventing wars, promoting peaceful resolution of disputes and mutual understanding among the superpowers.” “Will play an active and constructive role in curbing the negative effects of differences, arms races, new weapons and areas of conflict, as well as the spreading scourge of terrorism.”

When Pakistan was a member of UNSC!

Pakistan had previously been in the Security Council in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69 and 1952-53. In the General Assembly elections held in June, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia were elected for non-permanent membership, replacing Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland. America, Russia, China, Britain and France are permanent members of UNSC. Apart from these, last year Algeria, Guiana, South Africa, Sierra Leone and Slovenia were elected as temporary members.
