Mufti Abdul Baki Nurzai, leader of Pakistan Senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has been killed near Quetta city in Balochistan. When he was near Quetta Airport, some unknown assailants opened fire on him, due to which he was seriously injured. It is being told that he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment. Now the Islamic State Pakistan province (ISPP) has taken responsibility for this attack.
The officials have not yet identified the attackers nor have been ascertained the motive behind the murder. Nurzai’s assassination is another incident in the recent target killing incidents in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir. In the last three years, more than a dozen operators of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen have been killed by unknown assailants.

Dozens of terrorists killed
The attack took place after the murder of senior Deobandi leaders, Jamaat-ud-Dawa officials Mufti Shah Mir and Hamidul Haq. Mir was shot dead, while Haq and a dozen other people were killed in a suicide bomb blast at Darul Uloom Hakkania aka ‘University of Jihad’.
Recently, Jia-ur-Rehman, a prominent commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has also been killed, who was shot in Jhelum in Punjab province. Rahman was a close aide of Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed. He was wanted for many terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dangri firing conspiracy was conspired in January
On January 2023, terrorists opened fire in Dangri in which five people were killed. The next day, two more people were killed and 14 were injured due to explosive device. Rahman is also accused of planning an attack on the bus of devotees traveling to the Shiv Khodi temple on 9 June 2024, in which 9 people died and 41 others were injured.
