Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday met Iran’s President Masood Pezeshakian at the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (EOCO) summit held in Khankandi, Azerbaijan. In this meeting, the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed the regional situation regarding recent Israel-Iran tension. The PM of Pakistan has shared a video of his meeting with the President of Iran on X, in which both leaders are seen hugging. Sharing this video, Shahbaz Sharif wrote, ‘On the occasion of the 17th ECO summit in Khankandy, Iran met Dr. Masood Pageshkian today. We reviewed bilateral cooperation and recently discussed the regional situation in view of Israeli’s illegal attack.
Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the adventurous and intelligent leadership of President Pezeshakian during Israel’s recent aggression. He welcomed the decision made by Iran for ceasefire, which he described as important for regional peace and stability.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Iran and the government and described dialogue and diplomacy for peace in the region as the only viable path.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Iran and expressed satisfaction with the progress taken in the earlier meetings. Both committed to deepen cooperation in business, investment, energy and cultural fields.
Let us know that the 17th ECO summit was held on 3-4 July 2025 in Khankandi. This conference focused on promoting regional trade, sustainable development and connectivity.
At the conference, Sharif in his address emphasized the need for regional cooperation on the effects of climate change such as melting of glaciers, desertation and floods.
