The panchayat of village Lakhanpur (Garchaan Patti) located in Khamani block of Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab has issued a controversial and illegal order asking the migrant families living in the village to vacate the village within a week.
,
The panchayat alleges that these migrant youths are camping on the banks of Rajwah, roam the streets of the village without reason, drink bidi-cigarettes in public places and harass women and children.
The panchayat has also claimed that some people are involved in drug cultivation and intake, causing the village environment to deteriorate and crime and insecurity is increasing.
However, according to legal experts, such decree is a violation of the Constitution and Civil Rights and the administration should take cognizance of it.
Decision taken by Panchayat.
“Came to work, now camped”
Residents of the village say that these migrant families first planted paddy and came to work in the wheat harvesting season, but now they have started living in the village permanently. If they had an Aadhaar card or identity card, the situation would have been different, but due to lack of their identity, there has been a crisis on law and order.
The sarpanch said- If he wants to keep the landlord, then take responsibility
The sarpanch of the village has said that if a landlord wants to hire these migrant laborers on their motor or fields, then he can do so but only with an identity card and with full responsibility.
The panchayat has appealed to the administration to cooperate in removing migrant families in view of the fear of crime, drugs and anti -social activities in the village.
