PM Modi Attack on Congress: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress over freedom of expression and referred to the arrest of poet Majrooh Sultanpuri and actor Balraj Sahni and the ban on Devdarshan’s films on Doordarshan. Responding to the discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the vote of thanks to the President’s address, PM Modi said that the word “Constitution” does not suit the Congress as he had held leaders like George Fernandes in handcuffs and chains during the Emergency.
Prime Minister Modi also told how the then Jawaharlal Nehru -led government dismissed Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar from All India Radio (AIR) for reciting a poem on Hindutva thinker Veer Savarkar.

Attacking the Congress, the Prime Minister said, “The first government in the country was and Nehru was a Prime Minister, then there was a loss of laborers in Mumbai. In it, a song was sung by famous lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri ji. Nehru ji put a great poet of the country in jail in the crime of only singing poetry. Famous actor Balraj Sahni joined the procession of agitators, so he too was jailed. Lata Mangeshkar’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar ji planned to sing a poem on Veer Savarkar, so it was excluded from Akashvani forever. ”
